![]() ![]() One thing I noticed a lot of people complaining about when the game was released was that there was no real graphical overhaul for any of the games and that they felt as if Nintendo was being lazy by not making any real adjustments and you know what, I don’t think that’s a problem in the slightest. Being able to tilt the camera up without having to go into first-person view also would’ve been a nice little tweak for at least Sunshine and Galaxy but that might just have conformed to MY personal playstyle. The sudden adjustment made by the games default camera usually threw me off in the middle of a level and at some point was annoying because no matter which way I moved the second analog stick to adjust where I was focusing on, the camera would almost instantly snap back to its default position which 7 out of 10 times obscured my view. My other gripe with the controls is that while these are classic games that Nintendo left almost as is when porting them over to the switch, something they could’ve tweaked was the camera control for every game. While jumping towards a wall, the instance between Mario actually touching the wall and being able to jump off of it is almost zero so there’s a really good chance if you hit the jump button again and you’re still holding the control stick the other way from your last jump… you’re not gonna go the way you intend. While wall jumping was relatively simple and smooth in both Super Mario 64 and Galaxy, in Sunshine it was a different story. Mario seemed to periodically do whatever he wanted at the worst times, such as wall jumping. While the controls did feel good I still had some issues with Super Mario Sunshine. With the Pro controller, however, Super Mario Galaxy didn’t feel as comfortable since you move the star cursor with motion controls (though Nintendo does prove that playing Wii games with a two-handed controller is not an otherworldly concept). The Switch Controllers Show Their Versatility Yet AgainĪfter 24 years, 18 years, and 13 years respectively, you would think the three available games for this collection would need some massive overhaul to the controls for it to work, right? Nope, each game felt natural to play with the Joy-Cons in hand. ![]()
